About Harry

Harry is one of Britain’s top up and coming event riders, having already competed and been placed at numerous five star events such as Badminton and Burghley.

Harry started riding before he could walk. His mother, Sandra, is a capable dressage rider in her own right and has ridden to Prix St. George’s level.  Riding was in Harry’s blood. Treacle was the obligatory Shetland that started off the love of horses, which he shortly outgrew! With his next pony Wriggley, Harry was a keen and active member of the Petersfield Pony Club and represented them in all disciplines at the Pony Club Championships.

Spider VI was the first horse to kick start Harry’s Eventing career . Spider was originally bought from Ireland by Harry’s mother as a prospect to bring on and sell. He was sold numerous times but each time came back as he kept bucking his new rider off! This was very fortunate for Harry and they quickly formed an amazing partnership that kickstarted Harry’s career. Together they contested their first intermediate when Harry was just 14 years old, and went on to represent the South East at the Junior National Championships on three occasions. In 2007, they were part of the gold medal winning British team at the Junior European Championships in Avenches, Switzerland.

Following from Harry’s success at Juniors he progressed into Young Rider level with a horse called 'Rockin Robin'. In 2009 they were placed 7th at Houghton Hall CCI2* and were selected for the Young Rider European Championships in Waregem, Belgium. Here Harry won his second European Gold Medal. Harry also represented Great Britain at the Young Rider Europeans at Blair Castle in 2011.

In 2012 a horse set foot in Harry’s yard that, little did he know, would put their names on the international eventing map. That horse was Xam. It wasn’t until Harry took Xam cross country schooling that he realised what an amazing horse he was. It was this love of galloping and jumping that would allow them to take on some of the biggest tracks in the world. Together they have contested sixteen long CCI4* and CCI5* competitions to include four Badminton’s, two Luhmuhlen’s and five Burghley’s. Their best placings being 11th at Burghley in 2017, 13th at Luhmuhlen in 2018 and 9th at Blenheim Palace in 2013. In 2014, they were the highest placed Under 25 at Burghley.

In 2013 Harry spent a year as stable jockey for top British Olympic event rider William Fox Pitt. This was an invaluable experience to Harry, not only from a training point of view, but also taught Harry how to run a successful international event yard. Whilst at William’s, Harry was offered the rider on Dromgurrihy Blue, or Rocky as he was known. Rocky would be Harry’s second CCI5* horse. Together they jumped clear round Burghley in 2017 and Badminton in 2018. In 2017, Harry was the only rider to jump clear cross country round Burghley with two horses.

Over the years Harry has been consistently ranked in the top 100 riders in Great Britain and in 2017 was a member of the silver medal winning Nations Cup team in Waregem, Belgium with Above Board.

2020 marks a new chapter in Harry's eventing career at Mayor House Farm. With top class facilities and a great team of owners, sponsors and staff, Harry continues his quest to become World No 1 and Olympic Champion.
